As of March 25, elective presenter submissions to the 2011 Theatrical Bellydance Conference are closed.
CALL TO PRESENTERS
During the conference this year, we will include some smaller presentations, demonstrations, lectures, or classes as lunchtime options, in addition to our panel discussions happening at the same time. These will be held each day of the conference at the same studios where the main workshops are happening. These presentation slots offer a chance to explore different aspects of theatrical bellydance or related topics, and also provide an opportunity for conference-goers to learn more about each other’s work. Half-hour or hour-long slots will be available.
Some examples of topics that might work as electives:
- Short class
- Lecture/demonstration
- Talk /slideshow
- Film showing
- Demonstration of costuming, lighting, or staging techniques (can be “how-to” oriented or “show-and-tell”)
- Leading a discussion group
Things to consider in creating your proposal:
We have available half-hour and hour-long slots for presentations, approximately 4 hours total over the four days of the conference. Let us know if your topic would be ok for either a 30 or 60 minute slot; remember that if you can adapt the length, you may have a greater chance of being selected; you may propose a 30-minute and a 60-minute outline if you wish to be considered for either option).
Your cover letter must call attention to your experience and credentials; for example, if you want to teach a class, you must be able to demonstrate a history of teaching the material; if you want to lead a discussion, you should have a demonstrated record as a teacher or group facilitator; if you want to present a film, or design techniques, etc., you should have a track record of relevant experience.
We see these slots as a great way to introduce your work to this community, if you are a newcomer to the conference, or for past conference teachers, performers, or participants, or scholars, to present a different aspect of their work to fellow dancers.
If your proposal is selected for inclusion, you will be advertised on our website and other promotion as one of our conference electives presenters; please be sure to provide photos and bio for that purpose.
For hour-long presentations: You will receive 25 percent off of the full conference registration (at the rate that is current when you register/process payment) or 25 percent off of any daylong package or a-la-carte workshops for which you register if you live within 1000 miles (1609 kilometers) of DNA theater in Manhattan; if you live more than 1000 miles from the conference, you are eligible for a 50 percent off coupon, and if you live more than 2500 miles away (4023 kilometers), you are eligible for a 75 percent off coupon. If you have already registered and paid for the conference at the time of your submission and you are selected for a DNA show, you’ll receive an appropriate partial refund if selected.
For half-hour presentations: You will receive 10 percent off of the full conference registration (at the rate that is current when you register/process payment) or 10 percent off of any daylong package or a-la-carte workshops for which you register if you live within 1000 miles (1609 kilometers) of DNA theater in Manhattan; if you live more than 1000 miles from the conference, you are eligible for a 25 percent off coupon, and if you live more than 2500 miles away (4023 kilometers), you are eligible for a 50 percent off coupon. If you have already registered and paid for the conference at the time of your submission and you are selected for a DNA show, you’ll receive an appropriate partial refund if selected.
* Please note that discounts for featured performances and elective presentations are not cumulative. That means if you are selected to be both a presenter and a performer, you will receive the larger of the two discounts, not a combined discount.
